Surrounded by water on three sides and located in the coastal region of southern China, the city of Macao is one of the most unique in the world. Named after a sacred sea-goddess called Mazu, Macao dates back to the Qin Dynasty where it was first inhabited by people fleeing the burgeoning Mongol Empire. Then, in the 16th century, the arrival of the Portuguese would change the city forever.

Today, Macao offers a terrific blend of two cultures—Asia and Europe. Just the sight of the city showcases its mixture of people, architecture, and religion. Many tourists who have been to Macao say the best way to sight-see is to peregrinate the city streets. The downtown area comprises a beautiful market square called Largo Do Senado. This place is filled with an array of shops, perfect for purchasing souvenirs for family and friends.

To the north, tourists are able to witness the main attractions in Macao, such as the Ruins of St. Paul’s church and the Monte Fort. Situated next to the ruins is the Museum of Macao where tourists may learn about the city’s exceptional history. There are over 50 temples dating back to the 15th century, however, the most famous one is the A-Ma temple. Also, tourists seeking refuge from the bustle of the city can enjoy the beautiful beaches along Macao’s coastline.

Some places to stay at in Macao are the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel or the Grand Waldo Hotel. Other less expensive places to stay include the Fu Hua Hotel and the Grandview Hotel. Macao has everything to offer tourists, from an amazing city to relaxation at the beach. You won’t be disappointed.
